THE STEPHEN LEACOCK ASSOCIATES present the 78th Leacock Medal for Humour Gala Weekend. Experience the spirit of Mariposa celebrating Canada’s literary humour as inspired by Stephen Leacock. This year 68 books of humour were submitted by Canadian authors from across Canada. Be there when the 2025 winner is announced. The weekend events take place at Hawk Ridge Golf Club, Severn.
"Meet the Authors" and Student Showcase, hosted by Terry Fallis
Friday, June 20, 2025, 5:00 pm to 10 pm:
Hosted by two-time Leacock Medallist, Terry Fallis, this event showcases the three finalists for the 78th Leacock Medal for Humour. Authors will read excerpts from their books and answer all of your questions about the secrets to success in the literary world. Terry Fallis will also introduce you to three up and coming student humour essayists who will read their stories. This is a feel good event for $50 per person at Hawk Ridge Golf Club beginning at 5:00 p.m.
General Admission tickets go on sale April 7th, with membership sales (via an access code which will be sent to members via email) going on sale April 1st.
Ticket price: $50 per person. Business Casual Dress.
Leacock Medal for Humour Gala Dinner, hosted by Morgan Murray
Saturday, June 21, 2025, 5:00 pm to 10 pm:
Hosted by 2021 Leacock Medal loser, Morgan Murray, Morgan will entertain you with his wry humour and clever musings. Meet the three finalists for the Leacock Medal and $25,000 prize and hear what former Leacock Medallists think of them – Terry Fallis (2008 & 2015), 2025 shortlisted Canada Reads’ author of Jennie’s Boy, Wayne Johnston (2023) and award winning sports columnist with The Globe and Mail, Cathal Kelly (2019). Attend this Celebration of humour for $105 per person, also at Hawk Ridge Golf Club, beginning at 5:00 p.m. Dress is semi-formal.
The evening will included a proclamation by this years’ Mayor of Mariposa, John Levesque, and a toast to Stephen Leacock. Past winners/authors will present a spotlight on the shortlisted authors before the announcement of the 2025 winner of the Stephen Leacock Medal for Humour.
Cocktail hour at 5:00 p.m., dinner at 6:30. A three-course meal including slow roasted AAA prime rib meal will be served, and a cash bar will be available.
