THE STEPHEN LEACOCK ASSOCIATES present the 77th Leacock Medal for Humour Gala Weekend. Experience the spirit of Mariposa celebrating Canada’s literary humour as inspired by Stephen Leacock. This year 74 books of humour were submitted by Canadian authors from across Canada. Be there when the 2024 winner is announced. The weekend events take place at Hawk Ridge Golf Club, Severn.
"Meet the Authors" and Student Showcase, hosted by Terry Fallis
Friday, June 21, 2024, 5:00 pm to 10 pm:
Terry Fallis, two-time winner of the Leacock Medal, will be the master of ceremonies. Terry is the award-winning author of nine national bestsellers, including his most recent, A New Season (2023), all published by McClelland & Stewart (M & S).
The three finalists for the 2024 Leacock Medal for Humour will be introduced and will read excerpts from their books. The winners of the Leacock student awards will be celebrated and the winning students will each read their essays and will have a chance to meet and talk to previous winners of the Leacock Medal as well as the finalists for this year.
Cocktail hour at 5:00 p.m., dinner at 6:30, with the program starting at 7 p.m. A buffet meal will be served, and a cash bar will be available.
General Admission tickets go on sale March 12th, with membership sales (via an access code which will be sent to members via email) going on sale March 1st.
Ticket price: $40 per person. Business Casual Dress.

Leacock Medal for Humour Gala Dinner, hosted by Steve Patterson
Saturday, June 22, 2024, 5:00 pm to 10 pm:
Steve Patterson of CBC Radio fame will be the master of ceremonies for the 77th Annual Leacock Medal for Humour. Between live standup comedy and his show the Debaters Live on Tour theatre show, his twice weekly CBC Radio show The Debaters, he still has time to write, with his recent book titled The Book of Letters I Didn’t Know Where To Send. This promises to be a highly entertaining evening filled with laughter. Semi-formal Dress.
The evening will included a proclamation by this years’ Mayor of Mariposa, Trevor Cole; a toast to Stephen Leacock, past winners/authors will present a spotlight on the shortlisted authors before the announcement of the 2024 winner of the Stephen Leacock Medal for Humour.
Cocktail hour at 5:00 p.m., dinner at 6:30. A three-course meal including slow roasted AAA prime rib meal will be served, and a cash bar will be available.
