Student Humour Writing Contest
First Prize — $1,000
Second Prize — $700
Third Prize — $300
Entries are now invited for the 2012 Secondary School Student Short Story Competition. Winners will be announced by May 20.
Criteria for this competition are as follows:
- Entry to this contest is limited to students of Ontario Secondary Schools.
- Entry will be a humorous story or humorous personal essay.
- Maximum length is 1,500 words.
- Entry must have a title and be typed, double-spaced, single-sided only.
- Pages must be numbered, but no other identifying marks may appear on them.
- A cover page must be included and must list the title of the submission, the name of the student, the name of the school, its telephone and/or fax number and e-mail address (preferred).
- THREE copies of the entry, with one $5 entry fee, are to be forwarded to Marilyn Rumball, Contest Registrar, 24 Whistler Pl, RR 2, Coldwater, ON L0K 1E0.
- All entries must be postmarked no later than March 23, 2012.
The cash award for this year’s contest is $1,000. The winner will also receive two tickets to the Stephen Leacock Memorial Medal banquet at Geneva Park Conference Centre, accommodation for two for 2 nights and an autographed copy of the 2012 Leacock Medal–winning book and be honoured at the Friday evening soirée at the Stephen Leacock Memorial Home, Old Brewery Bay, Orillia.
The cash award for 2nd place is $700; for 3rd place, $300. The winners will be honoured at the Friday evening soirée at the Stephen Leacock Home.
The 2012 Gala Weekend takes place on June 8 and 9.
